  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a trainee chartered accountant and it means that I get involved in audits by completing various audit sections within an audit pack. To date I have completed income and expenditure testing through transaction testing, wages and salaries through substantive analytical reviews, chase bank letters, request debtors and creditors circulations and have even helped out on planning audits.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt that communication skills are vital in an audit both to keep your seniors informed of your progress and when requesting items from the client. This is a skill that I have developed to fit in with the work place.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Mazars LLP?
  • Quiet valued as they are putting time and effort into training me. It is sometimes difficult to juggle audits and study days/exam days as they are only one day and are in the middle of the week but mazars has been very understanding and worked with me to get around this.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was very structured. I especially liked the monthly catch up meetings with my mentor at BPP because it was a good time to reflect on what I had achieved and talk to someone outside of my work.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer by being understanding of my situation do allowing me days off for revision, college days and exam days even if it impacts on the audit slightly.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As I had to relocate to a new city, I thought my salary was a little low as living costs were very high to begin with. However, I have adapted and my salary is reasonable. It is also fair to say that Mazars pays for all my tuition so when considering this, I believe the salary does meet my costs fairly well.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes, there are lots of charity events which you can get involved in and raise money for. We also have a mazars monthly and dress down day where there are drinks and nibbles and a time to socialise with your colleges.
