1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Business services/audit associate. From mainly working in the accounts preparation department my daily tasks can be varied based on the type of job I am preparing, however generally involves gathering information from the client to form financial statements for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies. Internally this involves interacting with the in-charge of the job and job manager about expectations and also liaising with the client on any queries we may as work progresses. I also get involved with audit work, testing various areas of an audit. This can involve working within a varied size team depending on the size of audit and also working closely with clients to request information and for those to explain their workings to us. Going forward over the next year I will have responsibilities of juniors below me, which will be a new experience to my day - to - day basis.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Since joining I have passed my level 3 AAT and going on to study level 4 and hopefully ACCA. I have also done a great deal of internal training through the internal training centre of Bradenham which has helped to develop skills I need day - to - day for work.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Overall the team around me is a really positive and pleasant one to be around. Everybody since joining has been incredibly helpful and always willing to take the time out and help. Overall the company culture is very positive and always driving further, it is definitely the culture that promotes change and the ability to vary the route you go down as you go along which is incredibly motivating.

4. How valued do you feel by Grant Thornton?

Appreciation is definitely something that can be a work in progress with some members of the team, occasionally praise can go amiss however this is something that is improving over time with the use of the internal value awards.

5. How well organised/structured is your programme?

The training provided is really well organised, all training is booked for me and placed into my calendar throughout the year ensuring the no job overlap occurs. They are also really good at supporting you with study leave or ensuring that you are not to pressured with work around the time of exams. They also have a really positive mentor scheme, ensuring that a dedicated person is always up to speed with your training progress and giving you someone to go to with any potential queries.

6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

Kaplan have been really supportive through all medias. The tutors are always on hand to answer queries and with mediums such as their online service many queries and help can be answered through that.

6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

All managers and general attitude of the office towards support is really positive. All are more than happy to listen to problems or queries even when they're busy and no question is ever a stupid one!

7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

Due to living slightly further from the location of work my salary doesn't always meet my costs. Also in comparison to nearby offices the salary can vary greatly which can be frustrating. However looking forward as my qualifications increase I hope this can rise to meet my costs.

8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

There are always many opportunities outside of work, they promote networking events to promote Grant Thornton and build our internal/external networks. Its also really easy to get involved with other out of work activities such as school liaison and social clubs.

9. Would you recommend Grant Thornton to a friend?

9b. Why?

The training offered and the opportunities available are second to none and I'm not sure other employers could offer the same. The time and dedication that goes into individuals is immense and overall I feel its the best possible start to a career.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Grant Thornton?

Be yourself! Throughout the whole application and interview process we emphasise on being yourself, have a conversation and engage with everybody within your interviews or assessment days.
