  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job role is in Special Vehicle Operations is called Advanced Apprentice- mechelec which requires me to work on a range of high profile vehicles for special customers. I work on a range of vehicles from armoured Jaguars and Range Rovers to Special Rapid Response vehicles.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since I started on the apprentice ship I have come so far as I only had a BTEC in Engineering Principles and I had never really worked on cars before. Now I have a Level 3 knowledge of Vehicle technologies old and new.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy coming to work everyday to socialise with the work team and create new relationships as well as learning new skills and expanding my knowledge of the company.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by JLR?
  • I feel like a highly valued member in Special Vehicle Operations because my positive involvement in tasks I get given is always recognised and spread around in a positive way.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel like there could be a better layout of tasks for the apprentices with a list that should be checked off to confirm that we have covered all the jobs we'll need to know when we become a fully trained head. At the moment the tasks i've been doing have been from using my own initiative.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We have regular meetings with out Industrial Training Manager that we can always talk to if we need any extra support and guidance which helps to keep us on track and stay focused.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Within the workplace we don't receive as much one to one attention because we work for such a large company but we still get supported and they're always open to talking if there is a problem.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • We get paid a really respectable amount of money. For my age and circumstances it covers all my costs with enough for my own leisure but as the apprenticeship is open to all ages some of the peers who have a mortgage and children struggle a lot.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are always emails and leaflets being handed around advertising opportunities outside of work, but at the moment with college work and studying I dont really get involved.

  • 9. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Its a highly respectable British company that pays well and trains you, its not just a job its a career and it sets you up for life. Its also a family company as you'll find the majority of people have relatives who work there.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • Make sure you spend time planning what you want to put in your application to make sure that you show off the most impressive aspects of yourself, dont just rush your application last minute, you need to make sure you sell yourself well.
