Water Ingress Apprentice Fitter. Review

I have been assigned the role of an Apprentice Fitter in Water Ingress at Jaguar Land Rover. This role includes assisting any engineers in their tests, controlling the water rig from the control room and conducting root cause work. It also includes Wade Tests and monsoon tests on a vehicle.

As part of my apprenticeship I am gaining certain qualifications, such as my BTEC Level 3 in Engineering, IMI award, and an NVQ Level 3 also. As part of the job itself I have been inducted in every area I have currently worked on, I have also done hydraulic training and crane training.

I enjoy how I have been accepted into the work place. I work along side other fitters and engineers. The company provide support for any requirements, every day is different in the department.

As part of the apprenticeship apprentices have to complete Corporate Social Responsibility events. I feel I am valued by the company as it is essential apprentices and other staff get the younger generation interested in the Company and the potential career paths.

I have a thorough induction on the first day of each new facility or building. I have been given sufficient training on internal and external courses. I have had several planned placements during my apprenticeship getting knowledge and experience in many areas.

I have a meeting with my training manager every 12 weeks, it is sooner if he feels an apprentice is a concern. there is support available online 24 hours of the day.

Within the company there is an Occupational Health team, you can go to them with any mental of physical problems for advice and support during work hours. There attitude is positive towards helping employees out and myself.

It works out even everyweek. I did rent, however when my last contract was up I couldnt afford the rent anymore. So had to move back in with my parents, this means a lot of my wages go on travel costs as I now travel 120 miles a day. When I lived 8 miles away from work it still taken me 35 minutes, so the time aspect of costs is an awful lot.

As apprentices we go on several company events during the apprenticeship. The company also allows each employee to use up to £200 a year on activities which could be put towards a hobby, or towards learning something new, or a team building activity.

I feel the wage is very high for an apprentice. I brand is known world wide and would allow many expansions in your career. The company is always pushing and motivating its employees.

During the application write down why you would want to work for the company. You need to show enthusiasm and ambition during your assessment days, in any interviews, and in your application itself. There are more and more opportunities to travel abroad within the company due to their new factories abroad.
