My role involves designing and creating engineering drawings and solutions within the Power Transmission and Distribution sector.
I have learnt many different skills throughout my time with Balfour Beatty so far. These include, interpreting engineering data, structural calculations, creating drawings at a high standard and developing confidence with engineering and the power industries terminology.
I enjoy my programme as it is a great mix of academic and work training. Throughout the programme, I have also been able to do residential trips to the lake district and learn key civil engineering skills such as Setting Out via a course with the University of Birmingham.
The structure of the programme could be better in some instances. There is sometimes uncertainty of which team I will rotate to each year which then leaves me waiting with little notice of what my job my entail in the future.
Balfour Beatty really does ensure that I and any apprentice gets the support they need. There has never been an instance where my colleagues haven't supported me in my work and also for my academic studies.
I haven't received much support from my training provider throughout the programme.
Due to me working in a sector that isn't widely covered by Universities compared to Highways, drainage or geotechnics. Some topics on the course are not very relevant to my job role.
There are many opportunities to attend and meet some great people. In my time with the company I have attended many residentials and events.
