  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I support my team by ordering concrete through pour cards, site diaries, Updating APs and RAMs, creating handover documents like QIR markups, LSR trackers, I also make dig permits where I mark out near by services using a total station and rover and brief the job to the guys onsite.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am further developing my surveying skills as I have had to learn how to set up via resection. my communication skills have improved as I have to communicate effectively day to day to get the necessary information from different members of different teams.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am starting to really enjoy my work as I have been given an increased amount of responsibility and am truly starting to feel a part of the team. It was a big move for me as it required me to move 3 hours away from home but I believe it is helping me to grow as a person and as a professional

  • It is well organised as we have a dedicated Early careers team.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Quite a lot. We have regular keeping connected calls and online webinars. they also provide a living away allowance and travel home is paid for.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • They provide us with a hotel during the week and all food is paid for. As well as Travel.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • our first 9 week block was a very general introduction to construction and I personally, as someone who has studied construction since year 10 felt it was not very beneficial.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • 2 have come up during the last 6 months which is quite poor.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They do look after their apprentices.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
  • Be confident and friendly. Prior construction related knowledge will drastically increase your chances.
