  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am responsible for monitoring and reporting the spend and resource for my contract. Along with this I am also responsible for change activities such as Change Requests and Proposals

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed many new skills, a lot of them IT based. I am now more competent in excel and have started to use Microsoft Project. I have also built on my communication skills as I speak to many different people within my role

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme. I have learnt many new things since starting and always seem to be learning something new. It is different to anything I have done before but I am enjoying the challenge

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BAE Systems?
  • I do feel valued by BAE Systems. You feel very welcomed from day one and can communicate any issues easily if you have any. The scheme I am on is also very highly thought of

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured. The scheme involves five, one-year placements in different roles throughout the business. The induction is well structured and improved upon by inputs from the previous years apprentices

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We have specific apprenticeship lessons in college which are seperate from our normal lessons when studying for our degree. Along with this we have regular 12 week reviews were we compare what we are doing in our roles to a list of competencies

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We also have regular reviews with the scheme coordinators to discuss how are roles are going. Any issues we may have can also be raised with them. My line manager has also been very helpful in helping me settle into my role.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary meets my costs as well as giving me enough spending money. I travel quite a significant distance to work everyday and so one of my main concerns was that travel costs would be very high. Although to an extent my costs are high, my salary means that they are covered

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Opportunities outside of work can be slim. Usually things outside of work are organised by other apprentices or yourself if you wish so. This can be good though as you get to know other apprentices better outside of working hours

  • 9. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a large, well known company with a good reputation. the size of the business means that your roles during youre apprenticeship can be quite varied and so you are always learning something new.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Spend time on your application. The recruitment process, speaking from experience, is very thorough so it is important to get your application right from the beginning and making sure you know what you have written down. Some background knowledge of the company can also be helpful
