1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
I am in the process of developing into a fully trained and able mechanical technician; my day to day training involves copious amounts of work on Heysham power station
2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have leart a vast amount of new skills and techniques from working with experienced and highly skilled craftsmen, as well as this I have also completed training on HMS Sultan to give me the basic foundation of knowledge which I require
3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
I do enjoy my day to day working life for many reasons, one of which is that I have the opportunity to try my hand at different activities and experiences every day
4. How valued do you feel by EDF Energy?
I feel valued and appreciated by the company as a whole as they are open to consulatation with me and all other employees who may have queries or developed grevencies
5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
Well structued as we were given a clear and consise timetable for each of our four years on the apprentice scheme both in portsmouth and on station
6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
I have a difference of opinion on this matter, in the first two years of my apprenticeship while in portsmouth we were in training with Babcock international who provided adequete yet not substantial training however when back on station edf have provided me with excellent training and enhanced my knowledge greatly
6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
I receive great support from the company aS I know that any queries or issues I may have can always be shared with a memeber of staff in order to resolve the issue
7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
Because I still live with my parents my costs are considerably more than other members of the apprenticeship who are more senior with there own homes therefore for a person in my position the salary is sufficient
8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
Yes, in my first two years while on naval bases in portsmouth edf provided all apprentices with a number of free activiies such as gym membership and karate lessons
9. Would you recommend EDF Energy to a friend?
Because edf is a company in which there is a great opportunity to grow, both in a professional and personal capacity and is also an enjoyable place to work
10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EDF Energy?
Before applying ensure you have basic knowledge of the nuclear industry and a grasp of how edf produces electricity through nuclear means
