  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is currently an engaging project control role within the procurement function. I am involved with monitoring contract spend and budget for large scale defence contracts for the procurement funciton. I liase with key stakeholders to ensure the right people have the right information, at the right time.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learn't and developed many new and existing skills throughout my apprentiship so far. However a key aspect is dealing with the different type of people within the company. The diversity of the organisation allows me to develop soft skills which i would not be able to do at university.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • In summary, i like to come to work. I feel like it develops me from not only a career perspecitive, but also from a personal point of view. I enjoy the support that is given when starting out within the company and it is nice to know that you are around others that are all on the same journey.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BAE Systems?
  • I have felt like a valued part of the team from Day 1. BAE Systems provides me with the opportunities to develop my skills within the workplace constantly by offering; -Trips to other parts of the organisation to gain a greater understanding of the business - multiple stretch assignments.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very. I believe our apprentiships are very well structured and organised in order to align us with getting the most out of our apprentiship. It has been and still is being developed further to provide us with the relevant stepping stones to our careers in the future.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our training provider provides us with a large amount of support in regards to both assignments, internal and external examinations and soft skills. The sylabuses are well structured and the cohesion between students and staff is good.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Within our apprentiship we recieve as much support from our employer as necessary. If you need the support, it is there for you. There is a large amount of support from other employees and the early careers development team.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Very well, i think we get a very good wage in consideration to our costs. There is a clear progression route throughout the grade scales and this is very transparent throughout the apprentiship.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are a lot of stretch assignments to get involved with outside of work. There is a lot of charitable work that we participate in using our skills and facitlities here at BAE Systems which helps to support and give back something to the local community.

  • 9. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great opportunity to; gain experience in a multi-national company, getting your degree sponsored, earning a very competitive wage. It is a very fast-pace, diverse and flexible company that believes and sponsors its apprentices from Day 1.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Be yourself and have a unique selling point. "What makes you stand out from the rest of the candidates?". It is important to be yourself and to familiarise yourself with the company before applying.
