1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Since starting with Asquith Nurseries I have done a variety of job roles, developing myself from a Nursery Nurse to an Assistant Managers role. On a daily basis I now am responsible for the daily running of the nursery, the care of all the children that attend the setting. Overseeing and supporting all of the staff team. Ensuring we are providing a safe and stimulating environment for the children through developmental resources and activities.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt lots of new skills through studying my degree with the Open University. It has taught me to push myself that bit further and I can succeed. I have also learnt how to manage my study time and set time aside for my uni work.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have enjoyed the programme, of course it has been very hard and challenging at times. But when I pass and assignment or get good grades it makes it all worth while. Doing it through the Open University and working full time can be very demanding.

4. How valued do you feel by Bright Horizons Family Solutions?

Within my Nursery I do feel valued as a person. I have been with the Nursery for 9 years and it has been a huge part of me progress and development and my Manager has also supported me through this.

5. How well organised/structured is your programme?

Through my degree programme with the Open University some modules have been better organised and structured than others. On my current module I have a really well organised tutor who will be in contact regularly to check we are doing well.

6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

As said in previous one we have a tutor that we can contact at any time via telephone or email who will help and support us. We also are able to attend tutorials on the weekends. Which is good to meet other students.

6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

My Manager has supported me as much as she can providing me with time when I need to send an assignment off. As well as signing off any work that I need approved.

7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

I pay monthly for my uni costs which works out the best way for me. As I wasn't eligible for any type of funding to help cover my costs. But Asquith have supported me in the past to complete my NVQ Level 4 through the Childcare Company.

8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

There are many opportunities outside of work to study further and learn more. The Open University offers a wide variety of courses and interests so people can choose to study out of their work hours and gain more qualifications.

9. Would you recommend Bright Horizons Family Solutions to a friend?

Asquith Nurseries is a very good Nursery chain to work for. They are very supportive and offer competitive salaries compared to other Nursery chains. It is also really good for people that want tor progress with a career as there can be many opportunities available.
