  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Rotate around the various supply chain roles. e.g. Materials, Quality, Sourcing, Accounts Co-Ordination, Logistics. Gain Experience in many different parts of the company before choosing a favoured part of the company to do a year’s secondment and introduce an innovative project. Once every 2 weeks we are taught by a lecturer from Coventry University where we gain knowledge and understanding of how to answer our assignments.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • We will gain a foundation degree in Business Operations and Leadership Capability with the opportunity to further this into a full degree and even a masters. Learn various training in Handling Classified Units, how to improve productivity and making the workforce more lean. Sent on leadership and team building activities, some for up to a week. Develop personal and professional skills, presentation, communication and organisation are greatly improved. I have meant many different management styles and how peoples personalities mean everyone is different and works differently.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I absolutely love my apprentiship scheme. There is never a dull day, you gain great experience and get recognised in a global company. You make friends and network with loads of people as you move around the company. It also gives you great opportunities after the apprentiship scheme as there is a much higher chance of a job rather than going down the university route.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by GE Aerospace?
  • Yes, you are given more and more responsibility as you becomre more and more expienced. you can even manage a small team by the latter stages of the scheme.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well, it was been running for 3 years now and becomes more structured and organised every year. All Teaching days are set up from the start with locations (on site) and with what we will be aiming to achieve by the end of the day. Questionnaires about personality types are taken so a mentor of the same traits can be assigned to you. Each apprentice is given a job role then must do individually for part of the apprentiship qualification.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Mentors are always available if help is needed. You can always contact your line manager and the apprentiship leader further help is needed. They are all very supportive and understanding.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There are always people to talk to. There is a nurse on site for health problems and there is a HR team aimed at satisfying your every need. Any additional help can be found by mentors, fellow apprentices and line managers.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The pay at GE is very decent. every year there is a slight increase in salary and with all University fees at an all-time high, having them paid for is extremely helpful!! Even university books are supplied!

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes, as part of the apprentiship scheme a number of hours volunteering must be done but this is easily achievable as there are many opportunities to volunteer. there is also loads of social events and sports events to take part in. this is a great way to network with employees and meet new people.

  • Yes

  • Because it is a very good company to work for with great benefits and room to grow and progress.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace?
  • Gain experience in leading teams and showing leadership experience. Link how these skills learnt can be used in the future and show eagerness to progress and improves your skill set.
