Technical Engineer Apprentice Review

I am a 2nd year apprentice currently completing several 16 week technical placements. At present I work in an office investigating strain gauge queries following flights carried out by the Typhoon Eurofighter. Before this I completed two craft placements. The first was working on Typhoon Final Assembly. Here the Aircraft is tested and prepared for the customer undergoing Engine ground run tests and Production flight acceptance tests. The second was working on the Rear fuse of the Hawk aircraft. This involved a lot of physical skills where the aircraft is put together by hand.

I have gained an abundance of new skills. The craft placements enhanced my skills with tools encouraging me to work to fine margins to produce quality. My technical placement has developed my knowledge of the aircraft. It has also enabled the development of communication skills having to deal with the customer on a daily basis.

I thoroughly enjoy the programme. So far every placement has been very different but all have been interesting and engaging in their own right. Going to a variety of work places has helped me to appreciate the scale of the business and the roles the different departments play within the company.

I have been able to get involved in all of my placements. I have actively made a difference working independently and helping colleagues to complete a wide range of tasks.

The programme is very welll structured and almost always well organised, preventing any misunderstanding amongst apprentices.

I receive support on a weekly basis from my training provider.

I receive daily support from my eployer.

My salary meets my costs, no problem.
