Top 5 Christmas Films Since the Year 2000

Alt Text!

There’s nothing like coming in from a cold wintery evening, putting your pjs on and curling up on the sofa with a cup of hot chocolate to watch a good Christmas movie.

But with the amount of choice out there it can be so hard to choose.

To take the stress off your shoulders, we’ve done the hard work for you. We’ve narrowed it down to the best 5 Christmas films since the year 2000 – you’re welcome.

#5 The Holiday

At number 5 we have ‘The Holiday!’

Warning, this film may make you want to move locations and never look back.

What’s Christmas without a rom-com? If that’s your thing, this seasonal romance is just what the elves ordered…

Cinematic icons Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jack Black and Jude Law take centre stage as what starts out as two simple holiday romances soon turn into complex game of “Will they? Won’t they?”

Expect endless mugs of hot chocolate, lots of fake snow, cozy fireplace sets, mixed messages, slow-mo kissing scenes and all things wintery.

It may be cliche but it’s definitely worth the watch.

#4 The Polar Express

Coming in 4th is ‘The Polar Express.’

If you’re into your memes then you may instantly recognise one of the characters from this film. See below for a clue.

Another magical masterpiece with a slightly odd animation, this film will make you want to put your Christmas tree up in October.

As a young boy jumps on a mystical express train (no, not the Hogwarts Express) in the hopes of meeting Santa at the North Pole, he encounters other children doing the same.

They instantly become his friends and embark on a wondrous (and slightly dangerous) journey to the North Pole.

This film is a Christmas must-see . If you’re lucky, it may even get multiple showings on BBC One or ITV throughout the festive season.

#3 Nativity

Next up we have ‘Nativity.’

Remember taking part in the nativity play in primary school? This film will be sure to take you on a trip down memory avenue.

Primary school teacher Mr Maddens decides to create a twist on the classic Christmas story we all know, by adding modern song and dance into the mix.

The sheer talent expressed by the 7/8 year old students is enough to put you into fits of laughter for hours. There’s break dancing, ballad singing, even alphabet burping.

If you’re a big TikTok fan, you may have noticed some of these child stars all grown up, recreating their classic scenes from the film.

Despite only being released in the last 10 years, it’s already become a Christmas classic and a staple in viewing lists all over the UK.

#2 Love Actually

Next we have 2 turtle doves! Sorry at number 2 we have… ‘Love Actually!’

If you haven’t yet seen this film, then Christmas must not be your favourite holiday of the year.

Love Actually will leave you feeling extra ‘santa-mental’ as it follows the story of multiple families around the Christmas season, covering everything from old romance to heartbreak to young love and a lot of comedy in between.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and once you’ve seen it, you’ll want to watch Hugh Grant dance down a flight of stairs every year without fail.

#1 ELF

At number 1 we have the one and only ‘ELF!’

It would be difficult to find a person who didn’t like Elf, except for maybe Scrooge himself.

This cinematic masterpiece tells the story of a human born Christmas elf called Buddy who leaves his elf family and papa elf (Santa) behind in the North Pole, in search for his real dad in New York.

Buddy embarks on quite an adventure as he adjusts to life in a normal world, and you can’t help but root for him during his journey.

You’ll come away from this film wanting to run around revolving doors and hopscotching on zebra crossings. (Please don’t do that.)

Guaranteed to leave you in stitches. Why don’t you treat yourself and give it a watch with a mug of the world’s best cup of coffee! Or hot chocolate if you’d prefer…

If you made it this far, then you must well and truly be in the Christmas spirit by now. Hopefully you’ve eaten a multitude of mince pies while reading and are ready to carry on with your apprenticeship search.
